  Teacher: Mr. Austin
Grade 7, Period 3

As part of their studies in evolution (a major seventh-grade California Science Standard), Mr. Austin’s students focused on the many adaptations an animal develops for survival, and they participated in a digital storytelling workshop to produce short films on the topic.

In preparation for the one-week workshop, the class was divided into groups. Each team of students selected an animal of special interest and researched at least five adaptations that have helped the animal to obtain food, avoid predators, and attract mates. Project teams organized their research into written scripts for voiceovers and searched the web for photographs and images of the animals that illustrated specific adaptations discussed in the narration. Once the images and narration were combined, students added effects including titles and transitions to complete their digital documentaries.
