  Teacher: Ms. Averitt
Period 6

Ms. Averitt's eighth-grade Journalism and Computer classes focused on current events in the American cultural milieu. Choosing an issue that spoke to them personally, students were encouraged to research their topic and use the digital storytelling process to define the problem, explore common perceptions, and disclose the steps currently being taken to address/resolve the issues involved. The thrust of their project was to bring attention and accuracy to their issue and educate their classmates about it.

From their research, students wrote their own scripts, which served as voiceovers for their films. Students also gathered and selected digital images to illustrate their narratives, created titles, worked with transitions, and experimented with special effects to complete creative, individual films.
