Teacher: Ms. Johnson
Grade 5

Los Ranchos fifth-grade students participated in a Solar System unit based on the California state science standards. The project activities included a variety of demonstrations, experiments, artwork, reading, writing, and presentations. The unit culminated with these student-produced digital movies, done in teams. Not only did the students express evidence of standards-based learning, but they also developed and used critical-thinking skills and creativity. In addition, the students demonstrated important life skills throughout the unit, such as cooperation, compromise, communication, decision making, and self-confidence.
