| This year the fifth and sixth grade students in Room 15 at Bishop’s Peak Elementary School have been studying changes in the earth over time. In finishing this lesson, they have researched current environmental issues that are impacting not only our planet, but the lives of its inhabitants as well. The purpose of their research is to familiarize the students with some of these issues. In researching information to include in this project, students became aware of the importance of living and energy resources. The chosen topics were fisheries, forestry, finding new medicines, biodiversity, fossil fuels, solar energy, energy conservation, and nuclear energy.
Most of the information came from their science textbook, Focus on Earth Science. In addition, students collected information from newspaper articles and Internet resources. Graphics were taken from Google images, and scanned from the textbook, school library books and magazine articles. The class was divided into 8 groups of 3 students who collaborated on researching information, writing, image searching, and experiments. The final product is a result of many hours of student work.
