I learned that it is really important for teachers today to be really familiar with what is going on with technology. Even if we are not as proficient as our students, it’s part of their world, and we need to be literate. It requires a different type of literacy. I learned that I need to be able to read the film in a different way than I read print. Part of the problem that I had was learning how to pace it because I didn’t know how to read it. So, I learned a lot about that, and I’ll be able to focus on things in a different way. The "informal learning" concept makes sense to me. It reminds me of Vygotsky's "zone of proximal development," working with a student at a place just above where he/she is. The experienced teacher can gently bring the student to a new level. I feel that as the inexperienced learner in this technology situation I need that guidance. I feel I got that from the Pearson consultants. I want to encourage all of my students who are interested in technology to be able to pursue it, and I want to be able to help them as much as I can. It’s done a lot for me because I came knowing nothing aside from the basics of how to check your email, to word process, to search on the internet. I use technology in a way that most teachers do. And, I find it overwhelming. Everyone was great. You are all great teachers and very patient. I really learned a lot, and I want to keep learning.
