In 2005, Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, experienced Hurricane Katrina firsthand. Since then, Mobile Learning Institute programs have delivered technology-focused residencies directly to students in the area, enabling them to share their stories about Katrina and other topics of personal interest. In the summer of 2006, for example, students attending weeklong Mobile Learning Institute Digital Arts Summer Camps used the latest mobile phone and communications technologies to create compelling digital presentations. In the process, the students developed scripts, selected and created supporting imagery and illustrations, and then integrated these images together with supporting elements to create their finished films.
