Teacher: Mr. Doan
Fifth Grade

Based upon a six-week unit on Heritage, workshop participants in Mr. Doan's class focused on reading and the writing process, with each student creating a poem about his or her culture, background, and/or sense of identity. Next, students formed groups of three and collaborated to combine their individual poems, titled "Where I Am From," to produce a group poem, called "Where We Are From."

The assembled poem served as an integrated voiceover script for each group. Working together, every team of students gathered and selected digital images to illustrate their poem, created titles, worked with transitions, and experimented with special effects to complete their project.
