| Ms. Sammons' second-period students read Laurence Yep's Newbery-honored novel Dragonwings, which portrays events in early-twentieth-century America through the eyes of a young Chinese immigrant. In small groups, the students researched topics related to the novel, such as dragons, initial attempts at human flight, and early San Francisco (including Chinatown). Based on their research, the students wrote and recorded narratives and then edited them together with images they collected to create digital stories.
