During the 2005–2006 school year, students across the Los Angeles Unified School District participated in Mobile Learning Institute programs that delivered technology-focused residencies to their classrooms. These educational programs gave middle-school and high-school students the opportunity to convey their thoughts, concerns, and recommendations regarding topics of personal, community, and global interest, while allowing fifth-graders to share the excitement of working with a resident architect, who took them on a field trip to the Walt Disney Concert Hall designed by Frank Gehry. Just as important, the programs made it possible for young people to work together to develop life skills as they shared their interests and presented their ideas.
