Teacher: Ms. Moore
Grade 7 Period 3

Students in Ms. Moore's seventh grade GT science classes were challenged to develop digital stories to share their passionate thoughts about science subjects with other science students.

Groups were formed by students with more advanced computer skills or previous exposure to digital arts programming. They made a list of several possible topics and recruited one or two other students with similar interests to join them.

On the first day, each of the groups agreed upon a way to tackle their chosen subjects. After brainstorming, treatments were submitted in rough draft form. Students then wrote narratives that they would record during the digital arts residency.

Following some guidance about how to choose and save pictures, students accumulated images from the Internet and using a storyboard template, matched them up with their narratives.

Students of the third period chose to explain the ideas behind science topics ranging from The Big Bang Theory to the curious and intriguing lives of elephants.
