| In Irving ISD, the humanities curriculum revolves around a different theme each semester. This semester’s theme is “Patterns." Students investigated patterns through time in both history and thought. In looking at patterns in different places, we studied the five major world religions to see the commonalities in not only what they believe, but also in the effect they have on the regions in which they are mainly practiced. My students made films on different religions, and answered questions in their research that linked to these patterns. We also looked at different art movements - exploring the art in and of itself and as well as how the mainstream and establishment responded to it. My students looked at different movements that were not well received at the time of their inceptions to see the pattern of how the fringe becomes the norm. The sixth graders of the fourth period produced a mix of stories about world religions and art movements. To view the digital stories, click an image below | ||
