The Academy of Irving ISD is a public high school that opened its doors during the 2001-2002 school year. Unlike traditional high schools, The Academy's framework incorporates six career areas of specialization into its curriculum — Advanced & Applied Technology, Education & Early Childhood, Entrepreneurship & Tourism Studies, Legal Studies, Medical & Dental Studies, and Visual Arts & Communications — and combine business, community and education resources to provide students with integrated academic and career preparation. The Academy works with local businesses and organizations to offer qualifying seniors the chance to participate in an ongoing internship program, which provides hands-on career experience and develops workplace skills in their area of specialization. Capturing a Career, sponsored by the Pearson Foundation and Nokia, makes it possible for The Academy students to introduce themselves and describe their experiences at school and in the workplace in short digital films they create themselves.
