The Academy of Irving ISD is a public high school that opened its doors during the 2001–2002 school year.

Unlike a traditional high school, The Academy’s framework incorporates six career specialization areas into its curriculum – Advanced & Applied Technology, Education & Early Childhood, Entrepreneurship & Tourism Studies, Legal Studies, Medical & Dental Studies, and Visual Arts & Communications – and combines business, community, and education resources to provide students with integrated academic and career preparation.

Working with local businesses and service organizations, The Academy offers
qualifying seniors the chance to participate in an ongoing internship program, which provides hands-on career experience and develops important workplace skills in each specialization area.

Capturing a Career, sponsored by the Pearson Foundation and Nokia, makes it possible for Academy students to describe their experiences at school and in the workplace in short digital films they create themselves. Click below to view stories from 14 juniors in The Academy’s class of 2006.
