Mobile Learning Institute Summer Residency
Art Teacher: Mr. Patterson

During the Mobile Learning Institute Summer Camp, an artist from the San Diego Museum of Art visited the Boys and Girls Club of East County and familiarized camp participants with the work of Andy Warhol. Inspired by Warhol’s techniques, participants created self-portraits in the form of digital stories. To begin the process, they wrote and recorded scripts, which might provide extensive biographic information or simply focus on a single key topic. The participants also created artwork – often mirroring Warhol’s vivid color palette – to illustrate their narratives. Next, they assembled their presentations by using software to synchronize their voiceover tracks with the original art. Finally, the students incorporated creative effects, video, animations, music, and titles to polish and complete their digital stories.
