Today’s young people have already seen the world delivered to their desktops by personal computers. What will they do when the world, and all their perceptions of it, can be shared by the mobile phone that fits in their pocket?
The Mobile Learning Institute, a partnership between Nokia and the Pearson Foundation, asks students and their teachers to tell us what’s going to happen next in education. The program delivers technology right to local schools in a way that makes it possible for teachers to integrate students’ contemporary curriculum with tomorrow’s cutting-edge communication devices.
In the process, the Mobile Learning Institute shows young people all that’s already possible, and challenges them to determine what comes next, whether it’s creating and sharing their personal stories in videos they compose and distribute themselves, composing and sharing their own music, or engaging in an ongoing, dynamic dialogue with people like themselves worldwide.
The Mobile Learning Institute’s Classroom and Professional Development Residencies are available free of charge to students and teachers. These engagements are typically booked and arranged four-to-six months in advance.
