With support from the Pearson Foundation, the Red Cedar Writing Project organized a weeklong, hands-on digital storytelling workshop for a group of its local teacher consultants.

15 participants developed their own scripts, sourced relevant digital assets to illustrate their projects, recorded voiceovers, and assembled their unique digital stories. Discussion and reflection around the workshop focused on questions of rhetoric (What does this mode/type/genre of writing offer that print texts don't? How does the composition process and an understanding of audience work in this medium?)  and the challenges and opportunities that come with working with digital storytelling in the classroom and the community.

The National Writing Project's Tech Initiative
The NWP’s Technology Initiative (TI) is a series of opportunities for writing project sites to develop programs that promote the thoughtful integration of technology into the teaching and learning of writing in the nation's schools. It is supported by a special supplement to the NWP federal appropriation that is intended to expand opportunities for teachers to access high-quality resources for professional development in technology.
